Fall is peak hiring season, and looking at the trends, this year will be no different. Sure, COVID has changed HOW we hire but the resume writing tips remain the same. Hiring managers have been given obstacles with physical distancing, virtually interviewing candidates, and working from home – which, let’s be honest, is a challenge in itself! But by now, I suspect everyone has gotten into a groove by setting up shop at their dining room table or maybe in a kid’s old bedroom.

Organizations are going to be using a no-nonsense approach to the fall uptick. Everyone has realized how true the “time is money” statement is, and no one is going to waste a single minute on a resume that lacks luster.

Tailor Your Resume for the Job

Creating multiple resumes doesn’t sound fun, however, having the experience front and center that fits the position you’re applying to is helpful. Be certain to pull keywords from the job posting and put them in your resume. This is especially critical because the first step of the process is usually the applicant tracking system (ATS). Companies are using ATS’s to streamline their processes, and you don’t want to lose out on an opportunity because you missed adding in the important details!

Keep it Simple

Make sure that you are using a template that allows you to highlight your key accomplishments and provides the background of the skills you would bring to the role or the organization. You want to make sure that your resume template aligns with the industry appropriately. A flashy resume may make sense for some, but not for others.

Having a Gap is Understandable

Did you have a gap in employment? It’s okay. Between the recession of 2008 and 2009, and COVID wreaking havoc in 2020, employers are going to be used to seeing gaps.
